The term "tooth extraction" can seem scary since it involves the removal of teeth from your mouth. While dentists will always try to preserve your teeth, there are situations where removal of your tooth is the best option to restore your dental health.

We only perform tooth extractions after we have tried other options and they have proven to be ineffective. Tooth extraction is usually the last resort to assist you to regain optimal oral health.

Relieves Pain

One common feature of dental problems is a toothache. For instance, if you have an infected tooth, it is usually accompanied by extreme pain. The pain can be so excruciating at times that you are unable to perform basic tasks. You will have trouble sleeping, eating and even speaking. If procedures such as a root canal, and inlays and fillings are ineffective in alleviating the pain, tooth extraction becomes necessary to stop the pain. As mentioned above, we try every treatment before removing your tooth.

Removal of Badly Damaged Teeth That Cannot Be Saved

If you have a badly decayed or damaged tooth, sometimes common dental treatments are ineffective to save the tooth. If the tooth is left in your mouth, it can pose a further health risk to the adjacent teeth. If it is an infection, the infection can be passed to other nearby teeth. At this point, it becomes absolutely necessary to remove the tooth.

If you have crowded teeth, you can experience bite and alignment issues. The best solution in such cases is removal of one or two teeth in order to help align the teeth. Crowded teeth can also cause shifting of teeth from their position and can hinder you from enjoying a perfect smile.

Extraction is an Effective Treatment for Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth can be particularly troublesome when they appear. Wisdom teeth are the last molars to come through. They appear at the back of your mouth. For many people, when wisdom teeth emerge, there is usually no space to accommodate them. They, therefore, impact the nearby teeth, and can make them shift. The molars can also start growing in unusual positions which can cause you trouble. In other cases, wisdom teeth can fail to fully emerge from your gums. This can be painful, necessitating their removal.
